Your files and your data

Your drawings and models are your property. We use them to quote and make your parts, and for nothing else. Last updated October 27, 2026.

What we do with the files you send

  • We use them for your job only. Files are used to quote your part, program and make it, inspect it, and handle remakes or repeat orders you ask for.
  • We don't share them. We don't sell, publish or pass your files to other customers. We don't use them to train AI tools, and we don't upload them to outside AI services.
  • We don't show your parts off without asking. Parts in our photos and on our Work page are our own products. We won't photograph or post your parts unless you say yes.
  • Few people see them. Only the people working on your quote or order, a small team in Wrightstown, Wisconsin. The person who reads your drawing is usually the person who programs the machine.
  • Outside processes get only what they need. If your job needs plating, heat treat or another outside step, that vendor gets what's needed for that step (often just the parts and a spec, not your full drawing package). We'll tell you when a job needs an outside process.
  • NDAs are fine. Tick "I need an NDA" on the quote form and we'll get one in place before you send full drawings.

Where your files are kept

  • Quote requests (the form on our quote page): files are stored on a server we run in a US data center. Smaller files (under 18 MB in total) are also attached to the email that goes to our sales inbox, which runs on Google Workspace. Bigger ones are sent as private download links that stop working after 90 days.
  • Instant print quotes (quote.thefaboratory.online): models you upload are stored on our own servers at the shop in Wisconsin. If you don't order, they're deleted automatically after a short time, unless you save the quote to an account. When you order, the files stay with the order so we can make and remake it.
  • Files dropped on our home page aren't uploaded there. Your browser passes them to the quote page you're heading to (it stops accepting them after 15 minutes, and leftovers are cleared the next time you open one of our quote pages), and they're only sent to us when that page uploads them or you submit the form.
  • Everything is sent over encrypted (HTTPS) connections, and stored files aren't publicly reachable.

How long we keep them, and deleting them

We keep files for orders we've made so we can handle remakes and repeat orders. Quote requests that didn't become orders are kept so we can answer follow-up questions. If you'd like any of your files or quote history deleted, email sales@thefaboratory.online and we'll remove them from our servers and our inbox. The only exception is the business records we're required to keep for an order, such as invoices.

Other information we collect

  • Contact details. What you type into the quote form or quoter: name, company, email, phone, shipping address, and your notes. We also record the IP address and browser type a request came from, to stop spam and to measure our ads (see below).
  • Payments. Card payments for instant print orders are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.
  • Site usage. Pages viewed, where visitors came from, and actions like opening the quoter or tapping our phone number. Our own analytics (Umami, hosted on our server) doesn't use cookies and doesn't identify you.
  • Advertising measurement. When we run ads, Google Ads and the Meta (Facebook) Pixel may set cookies so those platforms can tell us which ads led to a quote request or order. When you send a quote request, we also tell Meta about it directly so it can match the request to an ad. That message contains a scrambled (SHA-256 hashed) copy of your email address, phone number and first name, plus your IP address, browser type, Meta's own cookie IDs if your browser has them, the type of service you asked for and our reference number for the request. Your files, drawings and notes are never sent to ad platforms.

How we use your information

To quote, make, ship and support your parts; to reply to you; to keep our records and meet tax and legal obligations; and to work out which of our marketing is worth paying for. We don't sell your information.
